ALOeTERRA
A Name With Purpose
The Lawrence Technological University Solar Decathlon 2007 team has taken on the name ALOeTERRA as a reminder of the greater ramifications of this project. The name evokes "aloe vera": the gel from the leaves of the aloe plant which soothes and heals. ALOeTERRA aims to help soothe and heal the Earth by promoting the use of renewable energy sources.
ALO
Alo, a Latin verb meaning to nourish, to cherish, to support, or to sustain, is a fitting start for a project focused on alternative and renewable energy.
ALOe
By adding an 'e', we have aloe- a species of plant known for its rosettes of thick, serrated leaves. On its own, the 'e' represents the universal symbol that speaks of the electronic revolution and digital connection.
ALOeTERRA
Terra refers to the earth, land, ground, or soil. When combined, we have a project which means to 'nourish the earth'. This is a reminder of a more holistic view of the project, one that extends beyond the solar.
